Dr.
Dwyer is the Acting Associate Dean for Research, MSU-CHM and Director of Grants and Research for the Upper Peninsula Health Education Corporation. From 1993-1999 he was Director of the Institute of Gerontology and Professor of Sociology at Wayne State University and from 1999-2003 was the founding Director of the Institute on Aging and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Florida. Dr. Dwyer received his B.A. in Sociology from California Lutheran University in 1982 and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Florida in 1988. In 1992 he was selected as a Brookdale National Fellow and in 1997 was elected a Fellow of both the Gerontological Society of America and the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education. Dr. Dwyer also has a substantial background in research on health and health services utilization, rural aging, and family relationships. |

Dr. Sally Harris is the Director of Research Support for the College of Human Medicine. Her role is to focus on providing assistance to Research Administrators, principal investigators and co-investigators as they are in the pre-award proposal development phase of a research project as well as to provide oversight for compliance and grant management during the post-award period. Previous to her position in CHM, Dr. Harris served as the Director of Research for 6 years at the University of Michigan-Flint. In this capacity she served as the liaison between the UM-F campus community and the Division of Research Development and Administration (DRDA) on the main campus, was responsible for the development of the Flint Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) and was engaged in extensive faculty development in research. She has taught at Michigan State University, Western Michigan University, University of Michigan-Flint and the University of Michigan on the Ann Arbor campus. She received a B.S. degree and teaching certificate from Mercy College of Detroit, a M.A. and Ph.D. from the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University. Her research has focused on advertising and marketing applications in entrepreneurial businesses. In addition to these areas of experience, Dr. Harris has also received continued employment status M.S.U. Extension Service serving as a County Agent and in various Specialist positions on campus. |

Dr. Fink is the Director of Special Projects for the Office of Research and Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology. He served as the Interim Associate Dean of Research for CHM during Dr. Paneth's 2003 sabbatical. His research is centered on the contribution of the central nervous system to the pathogenesis of arterial hypertension.
In 2003, Dr. Fink was awarded a major NIH Program Project Grant as Co-Investigator with PI, Dr. James Galligan, Neurohumoral Control of Veins in Hypertension. The goals of this project are to identify the interactions between endothelin and sympathetic nerves in controlling the diameter of mesenteric veins and how these interactions may be altered in hypertension.
He was also recently awarded a grant from the MSU Foundation to build community-based research by providing seed money to MSU affiliated faculty for pilot research in the amount of 75K each year for 2 years with the stipulation that the research involve at least 3 CHM campuses and result in a NIH R01 proposal.

Clare
is the Research Advisor and Director of Research Relations for the Office of Research and the Research Director for the CHM Lansing Campus. She helps to develop research interest, knowledge, ideas and projects, particularly among junior investigators; develop the CHM research infrastructure, network, and culture across all CHM campuses through supporting the campus Research Directors and facilitating relationships among them; promote CHM faculty expertise, and establish CHM ties with the larger community. She assists with developing research resources and communication tools, provides critical review and editing of project ideas and proposals, assists new investigators with information and guidance throughout the application process, and engages in community outreach activity. As Research Director of the Lansing Campus, Clare meets regularly with the other CHM campus Research Directors to exchange ideas and build collaborative relationships.
Clare has a PhD in Applied Gerontology from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. Her research interest is in health services, particularly in long-term care service delivery, nursing home quality, and the direct care workforce. She serves as President of the Michigan Society of Gerontology. |

In her role as Executive Administrative Assistant, Jennifer Roy supports Jeff Dwyer in his role as Associate Dean for Research. From administering his calendar to making sure he gets to meetings on time, she appreciates working for someone who is “really together”. Jennifer started working for the CHM Research Office in 2005, and has worked for the CHM Dean’s Office since 2000 in various positions. |

In her role as Office Assistant, Maureen Cullen supports the various functions of the CHM Research Office, including assisting the Director of Research Support, the Research Advisor and the Associate Dean for Research. Maureen earned her B.A. in English from Michigan State University and is happy to be back on campus, having joined the Research Office in July of 2007. |

Christine Liszewski, Year 4, has joined the CHM Office of Research part-time as a Student Research Advisor. She will be providing advising on an appointment basis regarding all aspects of research from idea development to disseminating findings. Chrissy will also be helping students find research mentors. In addition, she will be helping the Research Office develop a searchable database of faculty research interests/projects and research workshops, assisting with the Student Research Interest Group, and helping to coordinate other exciting new initiatives for student research. |
