Attention all CHM Students,
The Bruce E. Walker Student Research Center is now open for your use. Please stop by and check it out. Bring friends and colleagues.
LOCATION: A210 East Fee Hall - directly across from the CHM Associate Dean's Office of Research
HOURS: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM and by special arrangement. Reservations for meetings and events can be scheduled in advance.
The Walker Center offers two computer stations with research software, comfortable study and meeting space, webcams, Breeze and Skype to connect students and faculty across campuses, and more. It showcases student research posters, publications, awards, honors and photography from students throughout the entire CHM network. Although based in East Lansing, it is for all students and is a very visible reflection of CHM’s commitment to student research.
The Walker Center is made possible through a generous donation by Lois Walker, in memory of her husband’s long and distinguished career as a faculty member and research scientist in the College of Human Medicine. Her hope is that the Center will honor Dr. Walker by providing a place and resources for medical students to build the research skills, experience and professionalism that he prized and endeavored to teach. We are grateful to CHM Administration for the space and support.
Dr. Bruce E. Walker was born in Montréal, Quebec, Canada, on June 17, 1926. He received his Ph.D. in Genetics from McGill and his M.D. from the University of Texas. He accepted the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Anatomy at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine in 1967. He stepped down as Chair in 1975 in order to devote his time to research and teaching. Dr. Walker retired in 2001 and died on July 12, 2007 from
Parkinson's Disease.
