Finding A Mentor

CHM Student Research Process

The Medical Student Research Group (MSRG) of the CHM Office of Research assists CHM medical students through the registration, credentialing, and regulatory steps required prior to conducting research during their medical school experience.

The MSRG uses an online registration system called InfoReady for all CHM medical students requesting research projects and research-related funds. InfoReady serves as a one-stop gateway for all things related to CHM student research. It is where students request research project matches, communicate with MSRG, and request research-related funds. InfoReady has a database of active research mentors that is used to match students with projects.

There are three open enrollment periods for research project/mentor matching throughout the year. CHM students who would like to be matched to a research mentor can apply during the appropriate open enrollment period. These staggered Open Enrollment periods provide equitable access to research opportunities for all interested CHM students.

*Students may be matched to a research mentor once per academic year.

Open Enrollment Period 1: Through September 22
MCE only.
Students will receive their mentor information by October 16.

Open Enrollment Period 2: November 1 – 15
M1 (formerly ECE) students only.
Students will receive their mentor information by December 10. First semester M1 students are only eligible for matches through the EMR-P process.

Open Enrollment Period 3: February 2-21
M1, MCE, and LCE students only.
Students will receive their mentor information by March 6.

Here’s how it works…

Medical Students can access the registration at: MSU CHM Student Research InfoReady page or https://chm-studentresearch.infoready4.com/#

  1. Log in to InfoReady with your NetID and password.
  2. In the table on that page, click "2025-2026 CHM Medical Student Research Registration" to access the registration form.
  3. Complete the form (note: a CV is required)
  4. Students must have completed MSU-CHM RCR training to be eligible to be matched to a research project/mentor. See "*CHM RCR Curriculum" below.

Apply for travel, research enhancement, or poster funding through InfoReady. More info here.

Requests for research-related funding can be made at any time throughout the academic year.

*CHM RCR Curriculum

Students interested in being matched to a research project/mentor must be up to date on their RCR training.  For first and second year medical students, this means you must have completed the MSU Graduate School RCR Program through CITI.  This training consists of four online modules in the CITI program. The modules are:

  1. Introduction to RCR
  2. Authorship
  3. Research Misconduct
  4. Plagiarism

See here for information on accessing these modules: https://orrs.msu.edu/train/programs/citi.html. Follow instructions under "Employees and Students."

*Most of you have taken this in first year as part of a Fall career development session on research.  If you have completed these modules, you will find them under "Completed Courses" on your CITI Program profile.  Save a copy of the completion certificate in case you need to provide proof of this training.
